Good comment Jason, at some time in the future Amazon may decide they have so much market share they don't need affiliates anyway. I mean, if you're just sending them people who are already Amazon customers there's not so much benefit there for them. Or they may decide to only work with select HIGH QUALITY affiliates and the average "affiliate site" owner will not be chosen.
Always fill out the comment box to “sell” your platform. If you are given the opportunity to explain why you are interested in a program, do it! Use the space to highlight why you would be an asset to the program. Talk about how your audience is their audience. Talk about the size of your mailing list (if it’s significant). Talk about your success with similar programs. Talk about where and how you will promote (hopefully you’ve done a bit of research so you know what they’re hoping for). Don’t sound desperate and certainly don’t lie about anything, but be upfront and honest about how this will be a win for them.

It's a great book for a beginner to affiliate marketing and it would also be useful to someone who may have worked with another affiliate program but not with Amazon's. The book lays out the basics of the Amazon program, finding a niche, building a website, loading it with Amazon affiliate products and a few ways to feature them on the site as well as some basic ways to promote them/your site. If you're starting from "zero" or if you have a blog but you don't know how to monetize it, this book will help.
However, once affiliates know the damages that they inflict on those who buy WA after reading one of those fake reviews, it falls on them (cost of product, lost time, pain and suffering of failing to reach significant goals). Worse, WA’s Terms of Service puts all the legal weight on them, whereby they indemnify the company (for following the process, basically!)
In my experience, it’s product-related blogs that tend to do best with Amazon. Most blogs probably have at least some possibilities (for example here on ProBlogger I occasionally link to a book that relates or a computer or electronic tool that I think might be useful to bloggers) but the reality is that this blog will never convert as well on Amazon as my photography site.
